Tools to Answer the Call

"Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness (Justice), for theirs is the kindom of heaven.  Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me."  (Matthew 5:10-11)

The resources below focus on education and understanding.  Some explore the history and current situation, while others proclaim the call from Palestinian Christians to 'costly solidarity'.  We cannot as Christians simply marvel at the dead ruins of ancient Palestine, but instead must, as Christ calls us, speak out for peace and justice for the 'living stones', the peoples who inhabit the land today.

The Call from Palestinian Christians:
Amman Call, A Moment of Truth, and NCCOP Letter

In 2007 the World Council of Churches (WCC) produced a statement at their gathering in Amman, Jordan calling for peace and justice in the Holy Land.  This short document, known as 'the Amman Call' laid the groundwork for churches around the world to take action.  In 2009 the leaders of Churches in Jerusalem published "A Moment of Truth", a ground-breaking 'word to the world' about the situation in the Holy Land.  Frequently referred to as the 'Kairos Document', they addressed the reality on the ground and drew on biblical teachings to call on the world to help bring justice to the peoples of the Holy Land.   Finally in 2017 on the anniversary of the Balfour Declaration, the National Coalition of Christian Organizations in Palestine (NCCOP) wrote the NCCOP Letter renewing the call for costly solidarity with Palestine from Churches and Christians around the world.

CANADIAN FRIENDS OF SABEEL

The Canadian Friends of Sabeel project provides excellent resources from both a Christian and secular perspective. CFOS is "committed to standing in solidarity with Palestinians, and raising awareness in Canada of the struggle of Palestinian Christians while joining all people in Palestine and Israel striving for peace with justice toward reconciliation."  The organization takes on the mantle of 'costly solidarity' in answering the call of Palestinian Christians, and provides clear information and suggestions for others to join them in doing the same.
